Mantra Brewery approached Richtergarten to create the labels for the new brewery they were opening in Franklin, TN. The client wanted the design of the labels to be very organic, and specifically asked for watercolor. They wanted the labels to look very different from what already existed in the market, and easily recognizable from a distance. Mantra wanted their packaging to appeal to the beer connoisseur, and to speak to the artistry of what they, as brewers, achieve with their unique use of unconventional ingredients and processes.
The result is a line of beers with a distinct organic look using a combination hand drawn elements, hand-painted watercolor images, and the use of hand-rendered typography, all communicating the unique and unexpected nature of this artisanal product line. Each label has a subtle hint of the country of origin from which the different beer characteristics are inspired form, without being too overt with the references.
